Azure Blue

Way back (WAY back) in 2006/7 Swedish band Irene put out a couple of records on Labrador. Both of them were great; short (Apple Bay is 15 minutes), sharp and full of glossy Scandinavian pop, they were a band hard not to love. Then they kind of disappeared.

Well fear not, Irene fans. Tobias Isaksson (that’s him up there in the hat, hang out his washing?) is back from exile with a new project: Azure Blue. Keep reading

The Darcys – Don’t Bleed Me

A little slice of widescreen noisey indie in the inbox this morning. The Darcys are from Toronto and they take your usual (tired) indie formula — ‘rousing’ guitars bass and drums — and make things a little more interesting.

Fast chiming guitars, bombastic drums and droning synths make Don’t Bleed Me a bit good. The video is a treat as well. Keep reading

When Hearts (the track, not the album) first hit my ears way back I don’t know when, this was an album that couldn’t come soon enough. In that four minutes alone boxes were being ticked all over the shop: fuzzy shoegaze noisey female vocal synth lush. Get in my ears! Keep reading

Outfit – Two Islands

Liverpool’s Outfit make the kind of intricately constructed dancable guitar pop that makes you wonder what The Whitest Boy Alive are up to these days. Thankfully for Outfit the comparison is more a compliment than a sly dig — something which is only bolstered by this new video for Two Islands. Hand-made by the band themselves it’s all typically ethereal and double exposed. Still, the track is a belter. The pick up at the 2.20 mark is ace.
